Match your printer with your printing needs written - 1 September, 2005

If you have a computer, you~ll probably need a printer, too.
There are several different types of printers available,
with many different features. So you~ll need to know a few
things before you decide which one to choose.

Depending on how much, and the kind, of printing you'll be
doing, you'll have a few different types of printers on the
market to choose from. The choice you make will also
depend on what you're going to be using your printer
for. Laser and inkjet are the most common types of printers.
Laser printers are usually the most expensive option.

A laser printer is a good choice, if you are going to be
doing a lot of printing in black and white. Laser printers
can handle larger volumes. They are much faster and more
efficient.

If you're going to be printing photographs from your digital
camera, however, you'll need a color printer and that
probably means you'll be getting an inkjet type. Photo
printers come in a variety of price ranges, but, normally
photo printers that are less expensive also give poorer
quality prints.

Depending on your own personal requirements and needs will
depend on how much you can spend and what you are looking
for in a printer. However, be sure to remember that all
printers run with some sort of ink cartridge or toner
cartridge that will eventually have to be replaced.

Be sure to look at how often the cartridge will need to be
replaced and how expensive it will be to replace. In some
situations you may find yourself spending more money on
replacement cartridges than you did on the printer itself.

Some printers will allow you to use refillable ink
cartridges. Then you can buy a refill kit that will let you
refill the ink at home and will end up saving yourself a lot
of money. You should make sure, though, that you won't
sacrifice quality for a bit savings. Some printers and
refill inks are designed so that you won't get the same
great results after you refill the cartridge. Using refills
with some printers might even cause damage to the printer.

You should be sure to match the printer with your personal
printing needs. You don't need to buy an expensive, high
quality color printer if you're not going to be doing much
color printing. If this is your case, you'll be better off
spending your money on a good laser printer with some
extra cartridges.
