She served as a nurse in Holland during World War II, contributed to the Underground Rescue system during Nazi occupation, opened the first medical clinic in the jungle of Suriname and co-founded the Sunbeam Home, one of Canada's first hospitals for disabled children.
Her granddaughter, Karen Vos Braun, was at her "Oma's" bedside when she died, and was motivated by the gift of experiencing the transition between life and death and was thus inspired to write a book in tribute to her grandmother's accomplished life.
