'Sacred Journeys for Womyn'

'Sacred Journeys for Womyn' was founded in 1996 in order to address the need for a new social paradigm. Many people are turning to ancient spiritual traditions in order to find a way to create balance in their lives. Often, these traditions center around reverence for the female and express a balance between male and female energies. In these traditions, the Goddess, in her many forms, is the core religious symbol. She is the symbol to which many are now turning for spiritual sustenance and growth.

Scholars and guides present information on the sacred sites and mythology of the areas we visit. Through ceremony, informal lectures, healing circles and dance we connect to the earth-based spirituality of our foremothers encoded in these ancient sites.

Through the combined knowledge and experience of the group facilitators, women are encouraged to connect with our healing energy through mind, body and spirit.

We travel to places where the Goddess has been honored, both secretly and openly, for millennia. The tours are provided exclusively for women and are educational, experiential, healing, and most of all exciting and joyous adventures.

The Mists of Avalon Sacred Journey to England

August 1-12,1999

Sarah at Chalice Well
A 12 day tour of England's West Country and Cornwall. Goddess Journey. All participants will be met at Heathrow airport, London at noon on August 1, 1999. We travel down to Bath, an ancient city, founded by the Celts. We shall spend a night in Bath, exploring the ancient Baths at Sunset, then we shall enjoy a gourmet welcome meal at the very exquisite Pump House restaurant over-looking the Baths.

In the morning we drive down to the ancient homeland of the Celts in England - Cornwall. Our group will stay in Cornwall for at a wonderful retreat center. In the grounds of the center lays an ancient site known as a 'Fogou'.

Cornwall has an incredible windswept landscape and some of the most spectacular sacred sites off the tourist map. Some of the places we visit include Tintagel Castle, legendary birthplace of King Arthur, Men-an-Tol the holed stone which is reputed to make women fertile, standing stones, stone circles and ancient Holy Wells dedicated to the Goddess's healing powers.

Men-an-Tol
After Cornwall we extend our Journey into the Heart of Avalon - Glastonbury. We spend six nights at another comfortable retreat center. Located in beautiful landscape next to a nature reserve and an ancient faerie fort. The fourteenth & seventeenth century farm buildings have been restored to their former glory with tasteful modern comforts and the medieval feel of the place is augmented with 1990's luxury. The center hosts a meditation room, hot tub, and wonderful grounds and more. Please see accommodations for photos

After settling in to the center, we drive the very short distance to town, to attend the Third Annual Goddess Conference. There will be a host of women scholars, artists and researchers presenting. The conference continues over the weekend, climaxing with a Masque Banquet Ball. Our group hopes to attend all three days of the conference, and the 3 day entrance fee, is included in the tour fee.

While at Glastonbury we will visit Stonehenge for a private viewing at sunset on the day of the Total Solar Eclipse. Usually at Stonehenge the monument can only be seen from a distance of 50 yards. For our group we have special permission to go beyond the ropes, and actually be within the ancient monument. This is the first Total Solar Eclipse in Europe in 72 years, and the last one of the Millennium.

Lanyan Quoit - Cornwall
From our retreat center in Glastonbury we shall visit Avebury stone circle, Silbury Hill, West Kennett Burial Chamber and several other local sacred sites. We are delighted to have the prehistorian, author and artist, Michael Dames with us on this day. Michael will lead us through this ancient landscape, that he has documented in his books 'Silbury Treasure: The Great Goddess Rediscovered', 'Avebury Cycle' and 'Mythic Wales' (forthcoming). Please see our facilitators page for more information on Michael.

The week at Glastonbury will enable us to spend time at Chalice Well sampling the Goddess's healing waters, and time to climb Glastonbury Tor, the seat of Avalon. Glastonbury is a truly magical place and it is reflected in the many cafes, shops and healing centers - this is a shoppers paradise. While at the retreat center we will spend time on ourselves and partaking of several workshops on healing and Goddess mythology. There will also be opportunities for massage, and to relax, as we are on vacation !!
