Australian Natural History Safari
for unique wildlife encounters

Australian Natural History Safari is owned and operated by locally born naturalists
David and Diane Armbrust.

We would like to invite you to come with us on a journey of discovery into one of the oldest and most diverse rainforests on earth, the World Heritage listed Wet Tropics of Far North Queensland, Australia.

Our maximum group size of four allows us to look after you well and to show you a variety of Australia's unique wildlife living in a diversity of habitats and forest types.

We will take you off the beaten track into areas not generally seen by the mainstream tourist.

By going bush for the day we avoid towns, people and commercial establishments.

The morning is spent on our home property, Thylogale Nature Refuge, where a plethora of birds, mammals and reptiles are observed.

During a slow and easy walk on our private rainforest trails you will encounter at close quarters some of Australia's rarely seen marsupials and birds.

While here you will also experience one of the many highlights of the day.  An unforgettable morning tea or coffee break held in the rainforest with the company of friendly, free living mammals and birds.

The day continues with a four wheel drive excursion into the secluded World Heritage listed Mount Lewis rainforest.

The coolness of this mountain wilderness is then exploited as an excellent locality for a barbecue lunch of reef fish and salads.

In the afternoon a short drive west delivers us into another world, the stark reality of the dry eucalypt forest of the Australian outback.

A number of open forest birds and mammals are seen here as once again we negotiate a four wheel drive track leading down to the Mitchell River.

Mitchell R F.jpg (21312 bytes) The finale of the day is a refreshing cup of tea held under the shade of towering paperbarks on the banks of this idyllic river. Departing the Mitchell River we head for home and usually have you back at your hotel by 5.30 p.m.
