Château Gaudrelle_________ two reviews
Château Gaudrelle - A.O.C. Vouvray 1993 GOLD MEDAL - Salon Des Vins de LoireThis 100% Chenin Blanc (Pineau de Loire) is assembled from three different crus of the property: Clos le Vigneau; les Gués d'Amants; la Gaudrelle. Hand picked, each is vinified in its own separate manner to bring out its specific character (40% botrytised grapes), then blended together just prior to bottling.
Produced from 14 hectares of the best crus classés vines of the appellation, averaging 35 years of age; one Ha is 90+ years old. Slow pressed over 4 hours released the natural richness (11%). Cool fermentation for 12 weeks using only indigenous yeasts was carried out in 600L old oak barrels that are 25 to 55 years old (no new wood). Settled and filtered twice prior to final development sur lies fines in either vats or barrels until bottled in May 1994.
A sec, light golden-yellow colour with green reflections; possessing a fine, yet discreet nose of apricots, plums, and flowers. Very clean with a perfect acid balance. Mouth filling, round, soft and supple, complex; ample length. A wine that can be best enjoyed now with grilled fish or oysters; it will further develop.
