 Matua Valley__________ three reviews
"Matua Valley Wines has been a leader in achieving the high quality products on which this growing reputation has been based. The winery is privately owned by the Margan and Spence families with Ross and Bill Spence acting as Winemaker and Viticulturist respectively. The Spence brothers come from a family of winemakers and have, over many years, studied wine production, vineyard management and other facets of the industry in various countries respected for the wines they produce. The Matua Valley vineyards are twenty miles from Auckland. The vineyard is named after the valley in which the grapes are grown, one of the most suitable vineyard micro-climates in the country. Its low summer rainfall, high day temperatures, plus well drained, rich soil has resulted in the growth of some of the world's finest grapes..."
MATUA VALLEY Chenin Blanc/Chardonnay 1994Produced from grapes grown on the Judd Estate in the Gisborne region, this wine's colour exhibits pleasant yellow-green tinges. The fruit aromas from the blended Chenin Blanc (60%) and Chardonnay (40%) combine to give a subtle, delicate bouquet.
The palate shows depth of flavour with a clean, crisp finish. These two varieties combine extremely well to give a flavoursome dry wine style that is not overpowering. For this reason it is an ideal wine for enjoying with fine food. A wonderful luncheon wine. Serve with salads, soups, white meats and seafood dishes.
It has a cellaring potential of 2-3 years.

MATUA VALLEY Hawkes Bay Sauvignon Blanc 1994/1995 As indicated by its name, this wine is produced from 100% Sauvignon Blanc grapes grown in three selected vineyards in the Hawkes Bay region.
Light yellow-green in colour, this wine is a lively fresh style with emphasis on ripe Sauvignon Blanc flavours. The palate and bouquet are dominated by spicy herbal characters. An underlying citrus and earthy flavour gives the wine a lingering finish.
An excellent wine for consuming now or cellaring a little longer. Served chilled, it is an ideal accompaniment for seafood or white meats.

MATUA VALLEY Gewurztraminer 1994The 1994 vintage was a welcome return to form after the previous two years. The grapes ripened fully and exhibited lovely intense flavours in the vineyard. This wine was cool fermented in stainless steel to retain all of these.
Brilliant, light straw, with green tinges. This wine has an attractive floral spicy fragrance with fruity off dry palate and a crisp acid finish.
Serve chilled, an ideal reception wine; great with appetizers, spicy foods, fish and poultry dishes.
